It is a strategy RPG built on cards. Every character and spell is a card you play on your turn, and you win a fight by wearing down the enemy team before yours falls. Between battles you cross snowy valleys, scorched deserts, and realms of the dead, collecting artifacts and new fighters. The long pull is team building and collection rather than fast reflexes.
